Dressed in uber-patriotic attire, Alan Grayson
sat down with Bill Maher to talk about health care
reform and the war in Afghanistan. Grayson firmly
believes we should have left Afghanistan last year and
that the Republican health care plan is tantamount to
bringing a gun to the doctor's office.
Alan Grayson: The Republican health care plan is "Don't get sick." The backup plan is "if you do get sick, then die quickly."
Bill Maher: I would disagree with that and I'll tell you why. Because, you know, health care is 1/6 of our economy. It's big business. It's essential business. I mean - you can't even imagine taking out a sixth of the economy. Things would collapse. And actually, what big business depends on is dying slowly. Pharmaceutical companies, you know, medical firms, hospitals, doctors - what really they count on is people being sick, needing their drugs, needing their surgeries, needing their equipment for a very long time, or at least the last half of their life.
Alan Grayson: I don't think the Republicans think it through that way. I think that they are so into their issues that they only think in terms of death. Their idea of health care reform would be to allow you to take your gun to the doctor's office.
[Laughter from audience]
Bill Maher: Hehe, you came with some material tonight.
